PL and PLDM turned their back to the EU and left Parliament's session when they should have voted for introducing "European Integration" phrase in Constitution
PL and PLDM left the session of the Parliament. They refused to attend the discussion regarding introducing the European Integration phrase in the Constitution.
As a result, the draft law that comes to modify the constitution by introducing the European Integration vector haven't been voted, it had only 54 votes. To adopt the draft law in the final reading, 54 deputies voted yes, but the required number is 67. 13 others pro-European deputies also were in the hall, 8 Liberal Party deputies and 5 Liberal Democratic deputies. If they voted in favour, then the draft law would have been approved.
"Taking into consideration that the parliamentary majority is absent, PL decided they won't vote at all", mentioned Mihai Ghimpu, the PL leader.
In this context, Andrian Candu said that the liberal members of the Parliament turned their back to the European Union and the citizens should not forget that.
"We found out that the liberal party members turned their back on the European Integration. The citizens who voted for the European Integration should take this moment into consideration", mentioned Andrian Candu.
"When Mr.Ghimpu requested a break, we thought that we will have an important moment in the history of Moldova, but this wasn't like that. They can find a lot of excuses, but I think that we will regret that we had the opportunity to vote for such a law and couldn't. This is regrettable that we can't gather forces to take an important decision for the future of the country. The Popular European Group will vote for this change, but I regret we missed such an opportunity", said Valeriu Ghiletchi, the vice President of the Parliament.
According to Marian Lupu, PDM deputy, the European Integration is not made in Brussels, but in our country: I want to highlight two ideas: First of all, this is not a political decision. For the citizens, this phrase doesn't come with the idea of European Integration. It is more about political, economical and democratic development of the country. I have said many times that we won't fulfill the European Integration in Brussels, but here, in Moldova. I am not surprised that they didn't vote for this draft law. In the last weeks, I found out that four right wing parties are not pro-European. They are for the Great Union, but this has nothing to do with the European Integration.
"All the institutional communication of the EU, all the encroaches within the Association Agreement have been ignored or called political debates. This is an encroach. Do you think about the future generations? What would be the guarantee of the Republic of Moldova's development. I can tell you: We have many citizens who live in the West. They can balance the geopolitical condition of our country, by voting. Instead of integrating them in the voting system, we excluded them. Many said that if we introduce this phrase in the Constitution, other opinions won't be accepted, thus we will have an unconstitutional agenda. I want to tell you that the European Integration targets the citizens and the institutions. The EU should not be compared with the Soviet Union. We won't vote, as long as the Governance will break this agreement", said Vadim Pistrinciuc, vice President of PLDM.
PCRM also refused to vote for the modification of the Constitution, by introducing the "European Integration" phrase.
"We reiterate our opinion regarding the modification of the Constitution. I want to say that this change will divide the constitution into two. This is why we won't vote", said Vladimir Voronin, PCRM leader.
Vlad Batrancea, PSRM deputy asked for the vote to be nominal, but the President of the Parliament declared that they won't vote, as the liberal and liberal-democrat members are not present.
"They run away then they needed to vote. The citizens voted for PL and PLDM as pro-European parties, but then the time to vote for a pro-European draft law, they rejected it. We hoped that out PL and PLDM colleagues will change their minds. We don't need a nominal vote, as many "heroes" left the hall. I will even say their names: Pistrinciuc, Cobzac, Ţap, Tudor Deliu. The PLDM members didn't come at all. PL colleagues: Casian, Ghimpu, Carp, Cosoi, Boțan, Apostol, Bejan, Zotea. PL can also be considered a party that is against the European Integration. We have 54 votes. If the 13 members of the other parties would have came, then we would have had 67 votes. This is why, PDM and PPE think about organizing a referendum to vote for this draft law", said Andrian Candu, the President of the Parliament.
Before the session of the Parliament, Andrian Candu said that PDM could organize a referendum to vote for this draft law.
We remind that the voting for this draft law, initiated by the Democrats and PPE was postponed after the debates from the last week.
Within the discussions, that took three hours, the liberal democrats, the liberals, the socialists and the communists said that they are against this change in the Constitution.
Andrian Candu, the President of the Parliament said he is disappointed that the political interests and the frustration of the opposition stop such important projects for the future of Moldova.
