Prime Minister Pavel Filip at Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline construction: "This is how symbolic Union takes place"
The energy interconnection project between the Republic of Moldova and Romania continues with the extension of the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline.
The construction works were started today, in the presence of Prime Minister Pavel Filip and the Romanian Deputy Prime Minister, Ana Birchall.
It was mentioned that the project is of national interest and that for the last years the Ungheni district and several other localities had Romanian gas. After the second phase of implementation and investments in the amount of 93 million euros, the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline of 120 km will be able to secure our country with the necessary volume of gas.
"Today, we are making a second step towards energy security and independence. After many years of gas price as a scarecrow for those who were delivering to Moldova, we are approaching the day when this will not happen again", said the Prime-Minister.
Pavel Filip also mentioned that such projects bind the Republic of Moldova more closely to Romania. "This is how the Union takes place. By concrete projects, but not statements. Romania connects Moldova to Europe", stressed the Prime Minister.
Deputy Prime Minister Ana Brichall stressed that "Romania has been, is and will remain the most solid supporter of the Republic of Moldova. Through such projects we are pursuing an irreversible connection of the Republic of Moldova to the European space".
The Iasi-Ungheni pipeline was put into operation in 2014.
The works will be carried out by Transgaz, within a maximum of 23 months.
