Products with vegetable fats removed from dairy list
Milk and cheese containing vegetable fats and other additives will be removed from dairy list and included in food category.
Government has approved a document to this effect and will publish it in the Official Gazette in a few days. Dairy factories have six months to adjust to the changes.
Accordingly, factories have to change the names of the products concerned and develop a new packaging concept with more details about the content. The purpose of this project is to establish tougher requirements for the quality, production, labeling and transport of dairy products.
"These standards are related to the competitiveness of products. They are designed to maintain the dairy composition without any substitutions. If it's milk, the main ingredient is milk. If it's cream, it should contain only dairy product", said Carolina Linte, President of the Association of Milk Producers and Processors.
With the change, the VAT on the products concerned increased from 8% to 20%, which will lead to higher prices. The authors of project believe manufacturers will be discouraged to produce them.
"New provisions will come into force six months after publication date when the economic agents can comply with stipulated provisions", said Tatiana Nistorică, Head of Ministry of Agriculture.
The document is not targeting vendors.
