Doctoral theses containing the name of the Dean of the Faculty of Law of USM, Sergiu Branza, and of the lawyer Viorel Berliba, both detained yesterday by the CNA, will be thoroughly checked. The statement was made by the president of the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Education and Research, Andrei Chiciuc. He says that independent commissioners will be found in the commission to be formed for the examination of the files.
"We have identified eight dossiers filed with us at the Agency, which are in the process of being examined. In these eight cases, the persons appear as a leader as a president, member. We will examine procedurally once again if the procedure for supporting doctoral dissertations is respected. At the meeting of the Governing Council, we will approve the new expert committees", said Andrei Chiciuc.
Contacted by our TV station, the Rector of the State University, Gheorghe Ciocanu, refused to comment on what happened.
Yesterday afternoon, CNA officers descended to the dean's office but also to the attorney's home. Following searches, prosecutors raised mobile phones and several doctoral theses.
According to CNA, in August, lawyer Viorel Berliba, who is also a member of the public support committee for doctoral dissertations, would have given Sergiu Brânza money for two PhD students to have some facilities to support the thesis. The two were escorted to the CNA for hearings.
