Rîșcani District organized festival promoting winter traditions
An event was organized in Râşcani district, representing various winter traditions, having gathered 30 folk ensembles from the North of Moldova.
Hundreds of people came to the festival dressed in national clothes.
During Christmas Eve, they competed to show off specific for their regions traditions:
"I came with carols and the goat, with all kinds of traditions. With all the heritage Pelinia manage to maintain."
"We wish to promote our traditions. We are from Costeşti. We came with the goat dance, we also have the star and the horse."
"After New Years wishes, in our village we sing carols. They are masked as the shepherd, the boyar, the lady."
People could also enjoy a popular mask parade.
The event's host claims that the festival is meant to keep and promote winter traditions.
"Today we even have guests from Romania. Traditions which came from the old times deserve to be promoted, as they represent our country's nation" president of Rîșcani district, Iurie Urzică declared.
The festival was organized by Rîșcani District Council and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research.
