Cahul residents will pay more for water and sewage. The National Energy Regulatory Agency has approved the increase of tariffs by up to 15 per cent while the local supplier Apă Canal requested a 46.6 per cent increase.

"The electricity tariffs have grown considerably, which in the service tariff is about 30-35 percent. The company also benefited from a loan from the World Bank in 2004, 2006. Today we have around seven million debts to the Ministry of Finance, " said interim manager at Cahul Apă Canal, Gheorghe Gheţivu.

Hence, today the city's inhabitants will pay almost 13.87 lei for cubic meter of water, and the economic agents will pay 22.45 lei.

Sewerage services will cost 5.96 lei for household consumers and 15.30 lei for economic agents.

The water supplier motivated his decision by raising electricity, increasing the salaries of employees, and the company also has a loan of over four million dollars to the World Bank.
