Commerce is the most popular business sector in Moldova, according tot he State Registration Chamber. Over 50% of those 5,700 firms set up last year work in retailing. 

The second position is taken by food processing firms, 12% of the total.

6% of the new firms work in agriculture.

Over 171,000 companies are registered in Moldova employing about 800,000.
