The Moldavian athlete, Serghei Marghiev, won the first medal for Moldova at the World Universiade in Taipei (Taiwan). The athlete conquered the bronze at the hammer throw test.
Marghiev ranked third with a performance of 74.98 meters.
The athlete in our country was surpassed by Pavel Bareisha from Belarus, who won the silver medal and Polish Pawel Fajdek, who ranked first in the competition.
Moldova's World Universiade team is made up of 13 athletes in 5 sports genres.
According to Marghiev, Judge Dorin Goţonoaga won the second best result, which ranked fifth.
The Universiade is an international sporting and cultural event which is staged every two years in a different city. It is only second to the Olympic Games.
This year's edition will end on August 31st. About 10,000 athletes from 170 countries participate in the event.
