Slight prognoses: Sunflower harvest will be lower by about 30 percent this year
Sunflower harvest will be lower this year by about 30 percent compared to last year. Hydrometeorological Service specialists predict that farmers will raise up to 1.7 tons of sunflower seed per hectare on average.
Galina Busuioc has 60 hectares of sunflower in the village of Peresecina, Orhei. Last year, the entrepreneur harvested three tons of seed per hectare.
Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture are more optimistic. They claim that farmers could have a better harvest if it will rain in the near future.
"I hope rainfall will make corrections in technologies and then the crop is expected to be around 2.1 - 2.4 tons per hectare," said Iurie Uşurelu, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Agriculture.
In 2017, the sunflower harvest was, on average, 2.4 tonnes per hectare.
