Südzucker, the Moldovan-German sugar factory, will temporarily suspend its activities in Fălești while maintaining all the production capacities in a state of full operability. The suspension is planned until April 2021.
The decision was made due to the considerable reduction of the sales of Moldovan sugar, mainly on the domestic market. Moreover, according to expert estimates, in the last year, tens of thousands of tonnes of smuggled sugar have entered the Moldovan market, most of which is retailed by the commercial patent holders.
Also, due to the crisis of overproduction and lower prices on the European sugar market, the export of sugar from Moldova has decreased significantly in the EU preferential quotas.
Südzucker Moldova is a subsidiary of Südzucker AG - leading European sugar producer with 150 years of history. The company owns trademarks “Domniţa”, „Zahăr Cinci Inimioare” and “Dalba”.
