The trick of some economic agents reaches new odds. Our journalists uncovered a network of supermarkets who misleads the customers. Actually, the stores make available to customers bags that are marked "biodegradable". In fact, they are plastic and can not be called ecological products at all.
A specialist was asked to test and explain the difference between the plastic bag in the store and a biodegradable one from Romania: "The test consists of putting the bags in boiling water." After the studies the bio bags were decomposed in a minute and plastic ones remain intact. "
A few minutes after both bags were left in boiling water, the decomposition process was recorded only in the ecological bag from Romania.
"It has significantly changed its color, it has become softer, more fragile. It has been a hole, here it is, you see, it's breaking itself", explained Gavril Gîlca, a toxic waste expert.
The alleged biodegradable bag only heated the material, and the resistance remained the same at 100 degrees: "The others remained unchanged, even in the water they keep that rustle."
The supermarket manager says he did not know he is selling bags that are not biodegradable.
"- As a consumer I noticed that before was not indicated" biodegradable "on these bags, now this inscription has recently appeared - We are already contacting the supplier and see why biodegradable is indicated, after which we will see the answer" , said Liviu Noroc, administrator market.
If the product is found to be non-compliant, the manager promises to remove the bags.
Since the beginning of this year, a law prohibiting the use of plastic bags has entered into force. The document provides for the gradual removal of these products from stores. For starters the bags were banned more than 50 microns thick.
Starting January 2020, the thinnest of 50 microns will no longer be usable, and from 2021 those that are less than 15 microns thick.
According to specialists, a plastic bag breaks down in 500 years. A biodegradable one, however, turns into mineral fertilizer in at most one year.
