Survey: Moldovan women born fewer children
According to the latest census of the population, every fourth fertile woman aged between 15 and 49 has not born a baby between 2004 and 2014. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, nearly 23 percent of Moldovan women have given birth to one child, and only every third woman borns two children.
The 2014 data also reveals the fact that 13 percent of families raise three children. And a very small percentage are four and five. From 2004 to 2014, the number of newborns, per thousand women, decreased from 1720 to 1630.
The Gypsies families have more children. One thousand women in this group have 1,883 children. Second place after the number of births are the women from Gagauzia, with 1765 children to one thousand. Moldovan women are only ranked third.
In their case, 1,672 children are born by a thousand women. On the opposite side there are Russians, with 1,387 children per 1,000 women. The situation is also explained by the fact that the population in this ethnic group lives predominantly in cities, where, there are fewer births than in villages.
