Tap water in Moldova's aqueducts polluted by 70-per-cent
The water in the aqueducts of the country is polluted by almost 70-per-cent, These are the findings of a study conducted by the "Eastern European Moldova".
According to researchers, the quality of the water has suffered because of very old pipes, but also because of environmental pollution. The only solution is treating water with modern technologies, which are not implemented because of the lack of money.
According to the study, water from the aqueduct doesn't meet the physical and chemical parameters at a rate of 69-per-cent.
Water consumption with a lower level of hardness causes cardiovascular disease, and with a higher level leads to kidney problems.
Also, water 44-per-cent of investigates water samples have been detected with a high content of bacteria and microbes.
The problem can be solved using modern technologies. Scientists at the Institute of Chemistry have developed methods which local authorities can not apply because of the lack of money. One of these technologies means reducing the sulfur concentration.
Water samples were collected from hospitals, schools, kindergartens, public institutions, and households. The study was conducted from June to September in 45 municipalities.
