Many residents of Basarabeasca town complain that the tap water smells terrible. People are urged to buy water to wash the dishes and prepare food.

The local authorities say that the bad smell of the water appeared because of the dry pipes that were not changed for already 10 years. The local authorities don't have the required money to solve this problem.

A woman from Basarabeasca says that the tap water has an unpleasant smell. She needs to buy water for the household requirements.

"We can't even take a shower with such water. The pipes are old and rusted."

According to the preliminary estimations, the change of the aqueducts will cost over 18 million lei. The local authorities don't have the required sum.

Not even the Apa-Canal from Basarabeasca has the money to change those. Recently, the instance decided to name a new chief, as the company suffered 4,5 million lei liabilities.

"Our company is not capable to pay. The taxes are huge", said Tatiana Donici, the director of Apa Canal Basarabeasca.

The local authorities say that they are looking for a solution.

"I think that the Government should help us, as not even the district can help us. The local authorities should participate at many projects to gain some grants", mentioned Piotr Puscari, the president of Basarabeasca district.

Over 8 500 people live in Basarabeasca.
