Terrifying moment diver gets trapped inside cage with a great white shark
Footage of the extraordinary incident, near Guadalupe Island off Mexico’s west coast, shows the deadly shark lunge towards the cage to bite a large chunk of tuna, standart.co.uk informs
But it appears to smash into the cage and somehow ends up inside with the diver, as the boat crew rush to inspect the frothy waters.
A panicked passenger can be heard saying "Is somebody in the cage? Somebody's in the cage," as the crew wait to see if the diver is hurt.
They manage to lift the top of the cage off and the shark swims out, before the diver, unscathed, returns to the surface and calmly climbs out.
The cameraman wrote on YouTube: “This shark lunged at the bait, accidentally hit the side of the cage, was most likely confused and not able to swim backwards, it thrust forward and broke the metal rail of the cage.
“There was a single diver inside the cage. He ended up outside the bottom of the cage, looking down on two great white sharks.
“The diver is a very experienced dive instructor, remained calm, and when the shark thrashed back outside the cage, the diver calmly swam back up and climbed out completely uninjured.”
He also hailed the boat crew’s “outstanding job” in getting the shark out so quickly and safely.
The video was uploaded to YouTube channel Gabe and Garrett, which follows the adventures of two boys who live in California. The cameraman is their father.
