The first 100 masks for people with hearing loss donated to Association of the Deaf in Moldova
People with hearing impairments also need protective masks. The first 100 such masks were donated to the Association of the Deaf in Moldova. They have a transparent window in front of the mouth, for those who use sign language. Such a mask costs 40 lei and is reusable.
The president of the Association of the Deaf, Ruslan Lopatiuc, claims that such protective masks will make life easier for people with hearing impairments
"These masks will be very helpful when a person with a hearing impairment goes to the doctor. It is very difficult for these people to communicate when they use a regular mask. Most of the people with hearing impairments rely on lip-reading to communicat" said the president of the Association of the Deaf from the Republic of Moldova, Ruslan Lopatiuc.
Part of this first batch will reach the Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu Theater in Cahul, where a play will be staged for people with hearing impairments. The production of these protective objects was financially supported by the EU Ambassador to Moldova, Peter Mihalko.
"We can support initiatives like this. It is important that we appreciate the creativity and initiative of those who come up with these ideas, "said EU Ambassador to Moldova Peter Mihalko.
The transparent screens were created by Igor Hincu, a young toy manufacturer. A young entrepreneur from Nisporeni took care of sewing the masks.
"We treated the screen with a special spray so that it does not steam so that condensation does not appear while the person is talking. We have also included an instruction for each mask that explains to people how to take care of them in the future '', said the entrepreneur, Dina Ceri.
There are almost 500 people with hearing impairments in Moldova.
