The National Bank has decided to keep the basic rate at 9 %, at its last sitting in 2016.
The Central Bank has decreased the basic rate from 19.5% to 9% in 2016.
The biggest move as to the index was operated in spring. The commercial banks take the index into account when setting the interest on deposits and loans.
The National Bank (BNM) has eased its monetary policy as the rate of inflation decreased during four months in a row. However the commercial banks did not haste to decrease their own interest rates.
Anyway, BNM governor Sergiu Cioclea considers this is a good start for the loan market.
