They turned their passion into a family business. So, 10 years ago, the Lungu family from Lărguţa village, Cantemir district, set up a carpenter's shop with modern equipment.
Veaceslav Lungu has invested all the money earned abroad for work in timber, a craft he has inherited from his father. Now he spends his entire day in the workshop and makes doors, windows or furniture.
"There was absolutely nothing here, I bought the land, I built the building, I invested here."
And his wife learned to work with wood. Natalia says they have made economies so they can invest in the business.
"We started with a machine only, and now I bought the second one, then I took a loan, I got the third loan, I got four more machines," said Natalia Lungu.
It was harder for them to hire workers. Although it offers 10 jobs, they currently have no other employees except family members. Some have given up because it's hard to work. Valeriu Vicol now learns the job and hopes to have a job in the village.
"We have been through other parts, we have worked across the border and we want to stay home and work in Moldova", said Valerie Vicol, carpenter.
To reduce the spending, Lungu family needed a wood drying room. So their daughter, who is a student of economics, applied to the contest
organized by the Association of Moldovan Businessmen and was among the 10 winners of the latest edition of AOAM grants dedicated to supporting small entrepreneurs. Now the new hall is in construction, and by the autumn it will be ready.
"I applied, I was lucky to win, I was shocked, of course, and my father was same. There will be fans going out, there will be installed a computerized system that will monitor the humidity", said Alina Lungu, daughter.
The total cost of the works is 80 000 lei.
