They fight against propaganda through fake news and propaganda. What did CIJ present in a video broadcast by many TV channels?
The center for Independent Journalism, FHI 360 fights against propaganda and fake news through propaganda and fake news. In a press release, emitted by the Secretary of the Parliament it is mentioned that the center realized a spot that was broadcast by many TV channels, where they speak about access "restrictions" the journalists have in the Parliament.
"The propaganda phenomenon and the one of fake news was recognized by the Republic of Moldova authorities and the civil society, the Governments of other foreign countries. In this context, it is hard to understand the statement "Nowadays, the journalists have limited access in the Parliament". The spot was elaborated by the Center for Independent Journalism - FHI 360 with the financial support of USAID and broadcast on many TV channels on "Access to the information is not guaranteed by law! Don't accept it" slogan.
Commenting on the spot's message, the Parliament's secretary highlighted that only the last year 368 press badges were released. These provide the journalists' access in the Parliament. According to the statistics, the previous year, there were broadcast more press releases than the previous year, there were edited over 10 thousand GB of photos and three thousand GB of videos.
After implementing the live broadcasts from the sessions of the Parliament from 2017, all the TV channels have the opportunity to broadcast the plenary sessions of the Parliament.
Also, in the Parliament there were implemented the e-petitions, that were elaborated with the PNUD Moldova support, that monitor the delivery processes of the petitions, that provide the access to the information in certain terms, established by the law for all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. The previous year, there were registered over 3 7000 petitions.
In June of 2017, with the common support of the European Union and the European Council, "Promoting the liberty of the press in the Republic of Moldova", the President of the Parliament created a working group to develop the press legislation. In this group, ONG members, journalists elaborated two projects that were approved by the Parliament.
Also, to facilitate the journalists' work, there was published a Guide for the Parliamentary journalists. This material, was realized to offer a support for the journalists in their activity and raise the transparency level of the institution, through presenting the communication mechanisms and the press facilities, but also, the ones of the authorized persons who offer information.
We regret that a fake information can appear about the restriction of the journalists in the Parliament.
We are convinced that the Center for Independent Journalism represented within the working group for developing the press legislation on the parliamentary platform and FHI360 didn't admit the misinformation of the Republic of Moldova citizens.
We assure you that we can't admit that the misinformation and the tendentious approach from the spot targets the editorial politics of the TV9 and Jurnal TV channels who broadcast it on the rush hours. Also, there is no bond between the fake information from the spot and propaganda, foreign misinformation and politic events that occurred this year.
Through this public step, we request to adjust this spot in accordance with the citizen's right to be informed. We are opened to cooperate and present the information of public interest, according to the Republic of Moldova legislation, says a press release of the Parliament.
