Traian Băsescu remains without his Moldovan citizenship
Traian Băsescu remains without his Moldovan citizenship. Magistrates from Court of Appeal have supported the court's decision and rejected the request of the former Romanian president's lawyers. The decision was announced by three judges.
This decision is final, but can be appealed at the High Court. Băsescu was accused of illegally gaining his citizenship, having hidden from authorities the fact that he was investigated. On another hand, Băsescu denies the information. Andrei Bivol claims that the sentence is not worrying, as it can still be appealed at the High Court and even European Court of Human Rights.
At the beginning of this year, Chisinau court rejected Traian Băsescu's request. The official wished to annul the document signed in January 2017 by Igor Dodon, who has withdrawn his Moldovan citizenship. Former president of Romania, Traian Băsescu received it in October 2016, through a declaration issued by Nicolae Timofti.
