Romanian electricity company, Transelectrica is interested in taking over a similar company from Moldova, Moldoelectrica. According to lawyers from profit.ro, the announcement was made during a meeting of shareholders.
Representatives from Transelectrica claim that the investment will be made only if most of the shares will be sold to them, similar to the Transgaz-Vestmoldtransgaz transaction. For this, it is necessary for authorities from Chisinau to modify the legislation to allow Moldoelectrica to be privatized. Such law is currently being elaborated.
A former employee from Transelectrica is at the moment one of PM Pavel Filip's councilmen, according to Romanian journalists. From a technical point of view, connecting the electricity systems between the two countries is possible only through investments into Moldoelectrica.
