On February 2, 2018, a meeting between Foreign and European Integration Minister, Tudor Ulianovschi and Elizabeth Hafner, Deputy Assistant for Europe and the Middle East, was held within the United States Trade Representative (USTR).
The parties noted the progress made in the meeting of the Moldovan-American intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation in October 2017, expressing their conviction that the active dialogue established between the responsible institutions will substantially contribute to the development of the bilateral cooperation.
At the same time, the head of the Moldovan diplomacy expressed gratitude for the US side's initiative to assist the Republic of Moldova in adopting the new standards and rules in the implementation of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement, synchronizing them with the commitments assumed within the World Trade Organization.
Elizabeth Hafner confirmed the interest in boosting trade and economic relations between the two countries. The US official stressed the importance of implementing the measures taken by the Republic of Moldova to reduce bureaucracy and trade barriers in order to develop an attractive business environment that would ensure predictability and transparency for US investors.
At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors agreed to take the necessary steps to boost bilateral trade and economic relations and the flow of US investment.
