On February 19, 2018, took place the inauguration of the Republic of Moldova Consulate in the Free State of Bavaria in Munich. The event was attended by about 200 guests, including Tudor Ulianovschi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, representatives of the Bavarian government and legislature, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the RFG, Oleg Serebrian, Mayor of Munich Joseph Schmid, representatives of the consular corps, journalists, business people.
Bavarian Minister-President , Horst Seehofer, in his message on the occasion of the inauguration of the new consulate, underlined its importance for the enhancement of economic and cultural relations between Republic of Moldova and the Free State of Bavaria.
At his turn, the Moldovan Foreign Minister evoked the role and special place of Germany in today's world. In the context, he mentioned the existence of an untapped potential in the Republic of Moldova's relations with the GDR, including Bavaria, one of the most dynamic and prosperous European regions. "From a geographic point of view, Bavaria is the nearest German federal land of the Republic of Moldova. The inauguration of the new consulate will create favorable conditions for this to be more than a geographical one," the Moldovan official said.
The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Moldova in Munich is the 123th consular representation in the Bavarian capital, being also the third honorary consulate of the Republic of Moldova in the FRG, along with those in Hamburg and Stuttgart. The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova in the Free State of Bavaria is the German businessman, Michael Fischbaum.
