Two Moldovans were found by border guards smuggling half a tonne of nuts without required documents, near Tocuz village, Căușeni district.

Border guards pulled over a Volkswagen Caddy, with Romanian registration plates. Investigation established that the 29-year-old driver and his 28-year-old passenger are both citizens of the Capital. After searches, officers found 17 bags containing nearly 500 kg of nuts, estimated to be worth nearly 40 000 lei.

Investigation is ongoing, but officers believe that the goods were smuggled from Ukraine. 

The lot was confiscated.
