Passing to the uninominal voting system will insure the citizens’ access to decision making through the elected MP, said Democratic law-maker Sergiu Sirbu, one of the authors.
"Modifying the voting system bears a range of advantages: the voters will directly elect the deputies they know, they trust, and come from the constituency they live in. The legislators will bear direct accountability to the citizens and will be called off through local referenda," said Sirbu at the debates in the Parliament on the uninominal voting issue.
About 100 people representing the civil society, media, NGOs, ethnic associations, political parties tackle a new approach to the Electoral Code to render a better legislative representation to citizens.
