Within the Canal 2 Theme Day, Vice Mayor Nistor Grozavu explained the reason why the 4 floors were broken following the Rascani explosion.
According to him, the block was designed to be resistant to earthquakes, but not to explosions.
"Together with the head of the Emergency Situations Service in Chisinau, we were at 1 o'clock, on the 16th floor, when the firefighters found this gas cylinder, still the gas was still coming out.
We have to understand the following: he did not expel the bottle, the bottle was not closed or leaked. On that day that gas escaped into the apartment that was practically closed.
A dangerous concentration of between 1.5 and 9.5% was formed. When the lady came into the apartment, she lit the switch, and at that moment the deflagration occurred, she was thrown out of the apartment.
The smell of this liquefied gas is a bit different from the gas we used to be in buildings with centralized gasification systems.
They are two different types of gas, it smells more and it sits more on the bottom, and in certain concentrations it is very dangerous.
There it exploded this double-gas with air, that's why they are the consequences. There has been a space explosion and the weak places have succumbed.
Floorboards have ceded, they have not been calculated for explosion, taking into account that the building will only be equipped with electrical systems for cooking dishes.
The floorboards were built in such a way as to be very resistant to seismicity, but not to explosions up, down", said Deputy Mayor Nistor Grozavu.
PUBLIKA.MD reminds that on a Saturday night to Sunday, just hours after the Rascani sector explosion, a 77-year-old man died alive on the hospital bed.
