Vlad Plahotniuc: The coalition is still operating. The Government has a strong political mandate and a firm external support
The Liberal Party wasn't able to handle certain political risks, so they went in opposition. The detention of the Chisinau mayor, Dorin Chirtoaca was just an excuse for the party to leave ruling coalition. The statement was made by the President of the Democratic Party of Moldova, Vlad Plahotniuc.
"The Liberals wanted an excuse to be in the opposition. The step provides a specific political comfort and allows them to register progress in future elections. Reforms before elections mean expenses" , said Vlad Plahotniuc.
According to the PDM chairman, the Liberal Party is aware of the complicated period it goes through.
"The Democratic Party of Moldova is also aware of the costs of the reforms, but also of the social benefits" , said the PDM leader.
Vlad Plahotniuc argues that PDM has anticipated the departure of the PL from the ruling coalition a long time ago.
"We anticipated that the timing of the reform would cause problems. Although we and the liberals had a common vision, they wanted the reform to be done later, while we want is to be done now. It would be great to postpone the reforms after the elections, but the situation in the country requires an immediate action. It's not possible to postpone it. "
The PDM president has highlighted that there is no doubt that the coalition is still operating.
"Yesterday, there was a meeting with the deputies, and the Government has a strong political mandate and a firm external support for further reforms. We all understand the responsibility it takes to undertake reforms and to maintain the political stability in the country. We are ready to face any challenges in order to fulfill the commitments promised to Moldovan citizens and external partners" , said PDM leader, Vlad Plahotniuc.
