Vlad Spanu: mixed system, major change for the Republic of Moldova
Political parties should rather focus on more important missions than exhaust their powers on useless protests. The statement was made by the President of Moldovan Foundation in Washington, Vlad Spanu, in an interview with Free Europe radio.
Spanu also said that the new voting system meant to be a positive change enabling the Moldovans to elect their own representatives in Parliament.
"Today's parties who are protesting outside or within Parliament should create a network in Moldovan localities so as to have their own people and to mobilize voters when the election comes."
Likewise, he believes the revolutionary system to justify the people's expectations.
"It will be a positive change. It will be a lesson for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova on this electoral system. Politicians should have more confidence in the electorate and the future parliamentarians"
The mixed voting system was adopted with the vote of 74 MPs.
The new ballot law, based on the Venice Commission's recommendations, stipulates 50 deputies to be elected on party lists and 51 - directly by citizens in uninominal constituencies.
