While some school are overcrowded, other lack pupils
Alexandru Fleaș, deputy chief of Education Directorate has addressed, at yesterday's City Hall meeting, the matter of certain schools being overcrowded, while other nearly empty.
Ruslana Sârbu is an elementary teacher from Academic High Shool „Mihai Viteazul” of Chisinau. Currently she has 40 pupils.
"At first we must teach children discipline. If parents collaborate, then there are no problem at all", Ruslana Sîrbu said.
But due to the big amount of pupils, not everybody manages to answer in class, which affects them.
"We have an amazing teacher, but not all of us get the chance to get marks."
„Mihai Viteazul” Academic High School from the Capital is attended by 1 600 pupils. While in the Middle School specializing in theatre "Ion Luca Caragiale" has only 180 children. On average, each class has 20 pupils. For example, those from 4th grade have each their own bench, as they are only 18 children.
"All children are asked and we manage to work with each one of them, it is a big advantage, as no child is ignored by the teacher, which gives them an advantage", teacher Elena Șaitan declared.
Even pupils are happy with the current situation.
"At each lesson our teacher manages to check all of our homework and we all manage to answer."
According to the City Hall, some schools have only 20% of their spots filled.
"While we have some overcrowded schools, reaching to 120% spots, while others, especially middle schools, are filled with only 20 to 50%" deputy chief of Education Directorat, Alexandru Fleaș stated.
Authorities plan to reorganize education institutions so that the number of pupils will be split more even, while those lacking children to be closed down.
