Uncovered manholes continue to pose a threat to citizens of the Capital. A 65-year-old woman was hospitalized with a fractured leg after she fell yesterdays in such a sewer hole, three meters deep. Her screams were heard by passerby, who called rescuers.
The woman recalls how she went in the morning to throw away the trash. It all happened in a matter of seconds.
"I started screaming and a man heard me. I was more scared for my fractured leg. I felt like my leg was broken and I will never be able to walk again" victim Tamara Crisenco said.
After the incident, a nearby institution, on whose territory the manhole was located have covered it.
"Something must be done for people to not fall through. If it was not me, then someone else would have fallen. It would be even scarier if it was night and nobody around" Emergency Institution spokesman, Petru Craveț declared.
The manhole is being managed by the water supplier from Chisinau. The company's employees claim that they will take measures.
"The administration of the water supplier regrets that this incident happened. We will try to compensate for moral damages. We received information that the manhole's lid was not stolen, put set aside. We will inspect all manholes from the Capital that are being managed by the company" spokesman of Apă-Canal Chişinău, Nadeja Fotescu said.
In Chisinau exist around 100 000 manholes covered with lids.
