Worker's problem of 2018. Employers couldn't care less about workplace safety
The biggest issue employees encounter is that employers are not concerned about their safety. At the same time, National Trade Union Confederation, institution that defends the workers' rights, has no right to inspect if workplace safety conditions are met without warning. The institution's president requested for the institution to gain the right to perform inspections without warnings, to prevent workplace accidents.
Last year, 17 people passed away at their workplace and 36 were injured. Also in 2017, was brought into force the permissive acts reforms, where the number of bodies that can perform inspections were decreased. Despite aiming to ensure that the workers' rights are respected, the National Trade Union Confederation does not fall among those.
"National Trade Union Confederation was not among the institutions that can perform inspections, under law 131 and we control our enterprises, present the information at the Labor Inspection" president of the National Trade Union Confederation, Oleg Budza said.
The union's executives claim that workers face harsh conditions.
"Imagine those who, for example, are performing repair works and work in hot weather. Those people need protection, need to have everything necessary" president of Federation of Trade Unions of Transport, Boris Rojnevschi said.
Today, Prime Minister Pavel Filip announced that the issue is discussed at the Government and the legislation will be changed.
"Despite having talked much, you can see how we went back to Work Inspection, the legislation changes were already made, because we will never give up and simply say: live with it. We will not give up" Prime Minister declared.
