2 600 parentless children will receive daily indemnities
Children that remained temporarily or permanently without parents will daily receive, starting this year, a certain amount of money, reaching to over 4 000 lei per year. The Government approved today a project according to which parentless children, living either in foster care or boarding schools, will receive daily indemnity.
Starting 5th grade and to the time when they are 18, the children will receive each day 10 lei, with the exception of holidays, when they will get 70 lei and birthdays when children will receive 100 lei. The indemnities will rise each year, starting April 1, based on the inflation.
The financial support will be offered starting January 1 2018. For this project is foreseen 10.4 million lei from the state budget. A total of 2 600 children will benefit form the law.
"On one hand this is a social project, on another a financial aid. It is important for those children to learn to manage their own money. The children will personally receive the money and be the ones to decide how it will be spend, of course everything will be supervised by the adult responsible for said child" Prime Minister Pavel Filip said.
The law was elaborated within the Government's action plan for 2016-2018, as well as the action plan to implement the child protection strategy for 2014-2020.
