20,000 students and 3,000 teachers struggle with online learning due to lack of computer, internet access
About six percent of all students, nearly 20,000 children and adolescents, do not have computers or internet access to study remotely.
Three thousand teachers face the same problem. The announcement was made by Minister of Education, Igor Şarov, in the talk-show Publika Report.
The official gave assurances that the local authorities were identifying other ways to ensure all students to have access.
In some cases, the teacher have to deliver homework right to the door of the student who cannot attend online lessons.
"Their parents will take it and give to the students. When it's done, the homework should be left in front of the gate where they will be taken. Or send them by post or other ways", Minister Şarov said.
He said these problems could be solved with the help of a grant offered by the Fund of the Global Partnership for Education and the state financial contribution.
"If we manage to allocate the amount of 15 million dollars, we could receive five million in the form of a grant that could still be used to solve these problems," said Education Minister Igor Sarov.
According to him, the laptops to be purchased will be kept in the educational institutions and can be rented by teachers and students.
In total, there are about 330,000 students and 28,000 teachers in schools across the country.
