Foreign diplomats accredited in Chisinau are informed on schedule of Fire Shield 2016 exercises
Servicemen of the National Army have showed that they can be at the same level with their fellows from other countries, even if they do not have the most modern armament and equipment. Defence Minister Anatol Salaru today made statement to this effect at the military training base where the multinational exercise, Fire Shield 2016, is held.
According to a press release of the Defence Ministry, Anatol Salaru also said that the cooperation with troops from Romania and the USA, which participate with military in these drills, was very important for the national military institution. “We saw today that they perfectly interacted, which proves that our servicemen are inter-operable with the military from the NATO countries,” Salaru noted.
The Defence Ministry organized a tour on familiarizing with the exercises from the military base for representatives of the diplomatic corps and military attaches accredited in Moldova.
The officials took part in a briefing on informing about the exercise, visited several training places and attended a show of shooting from different types of weapons, such as: cannon 2A-36; howitzer M-30, cannot howitzer D-20 and antitank cannon MT-12.
The training exercises Fire Shield 2016 are held on 11-24 September, with the participation of about 300 servicemen from Moldova, Romania and the United States. The drills’ goal is to train artillery subunits and enhance the inter-operability between military of the three countries. The participating contingents train to carry out combat shootings from covered shooting places, as well as to drive combat vehicles and make combat shootings with platoons and within joint squadrons.
