15th magistrate involved in "Russian laundry" scheme received 30 days of arrest
The 15th magistrate, Serghei Popovici, president of Comrat Court involved in the scheme "Russian laundry" scheme received 30 days of arrest.
Thursday, 14 magistrates and three other bailiffs received 30 days of arrest each.
Judge Serghei Popovici was not present in front of magistrates. He was represented by his lawyer:
"What did your client thought? - He thinks he's innocent. - Why he didn't participate in today's meeting? - That is his decision."
"The position they have in society would allow them to some extent or by known or others to încerece to influence the course of criminal investigations. We therefore believe that the courts have considered the application, namely that preventive measures" , said Attorney Dorin Compan.
15 judges and three bailiffs, who were arrested for 30 days, are accused of involvement in money laundering scheme, in which 20 billion dollars were illegally transferred.
Earlier, media wrote that Veaceslav Platon would be behing the schemes, also known as number one raider in the CIS.
The defendants were arrested after dozens of searches carried out in offices, homes and their cars.
The operation was conducted by the National Center for Anti-Corruption and Anti-Corruption Prosecutor.
In total, 20 officials were involved in the schemes
One is given in the search, and another is abroad. The suspects face up to 10 years in prison.
