Moldovan Bar Association to review activity, backed up by European project
A two-day workshop starts on Friday, 30 September, aimed at supporting the Moldovan Bar Association in evaluating the implementation of its 2016-2019 strategy and to plan ahead for the next period.
The workshop is supported by a joint EU-Council of Europe project on strengthening the efficiency of justice and supporting the legal profession in Moldova.
The workshop in Chisinau will help members of the Bar to critically assess implementation of the strategy, to identify difficulties and propose solutions for professional self-governance, in line with Council of Europe recommendations and European best practices. Two international consultants will moderate the event and share European best practices in the field.
The 2016-2019 Strategy was prepared with the support of the project and was approved by the Moldovan Bar Council in February 2016.
The ‘Support to the Moldovan Bar Association’ initiative is part of a project on ‘Strengthening the efficiency of justice and support to lawyers’ profession in the Republic of Moldova, in the framework of the joint EU-Council of Europe Programmatic Co-operation Framework (PCF).
The PCF aims to provide extensive and substantial expertise on strengthening the capacity of institutions in the six Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine) to implement domestic reforms.
It also aims to bring the countries closer to Council of Europe and European Union standards in the fields of human rights, democracy and the rule of law, and improve the lives of citizens. The EU’s contribution to the PCF is EUR 30 million, EU Neighbourhood Info writes.
