The body of the actor Ion Ungureanu will be brought tomorrow to Chişinău, as the burial is planned for Tuesday.

Premier Pavel Filip has asked President Iogor Dodon to decree January 31 as a day of national mourning.

The statements were made by Culture Minister Monica Babuc, after a sitting with people of creation.  

The renowned actor, director and statesman passed away on Saturday in a Bucharest hospital after a long disease.

Ion Ungureanu was born on August 2, 1935, in the village of Opaci, the present district of Causeni.

He was one of the pillars of the national revival movement and parliamentarian in the first Legislature.

He was a Minister of Culture from 1990 through 1994.
