30-day custody for man, who threw boxes at police in Central Market riot
A man who threw with boxes and tables at the police in the riots at Chisinau’s central market has been arrested for thirty days.
Meanwhile a street vendor confirms the man in custody protected the illegal sellers and took protection taxes.
A 28-year-old vendor accepted to talk to Publika TV on condition of anonymity: "The taxes were 20 to 100 lei. We called him Romeo, Roma. He collected the money in the evening. I told me I would have problems with tax inspectorate unless I pay him."

The vendor says he recorded the ‘tax collector’ but has been afraid to make the video public until now: "When I saw him on TV I decided to show everybody what the bandits were doing around the bazaar, how they collect money from people and beat you if you don’t give them."
Last Thursday, two carabineers were injured in the clashes of the illegal street vendors. The unlawful sellers dislike the police’s move to curb the illegal vending around the central market from Chisinau.
