Pimps get 73 years of jail term for human trafficking
Four people have been sentenced to a total of 73 years of detention for child and human trafficking, as well as for coercing others to make false statements.
The Prosecutor General's Office has proved the four people guilty and the court sentenced them to 25, 22, 15 and 11 years of imprisonment respectively. The fifth member of the criminal group was acquitted by magistrates of criminal responsibility.
Prosecutors have demonstrated that at the end of 2013, the defendants created an organized criminal group specialized in human trafficking, which was active until May 2015 when it was annihilated by law enforcement.
During that time, the members of the organized criminal group trafficked eleven people, including six minor females who were recruited and sexually exploited for money in several apartments in Chisinau. The offenders did this by threatening and abusing the victims physically and psychologically, taking advantage of their vulnerability.
Prosecutors will challenge the sentence of the first instance and will demand that all members of the criminal group be sent to jail.
