Gas pipeline Iasi-Chisinau to be finalized by 2018
Expansion of the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline to Chisinau by 2018 is a real term.
The statement was made by the Romanian Ambassador to Romania, Daniel Ioniţă, in an interview with Radio Chisinau. The diplomat also said that Bucharest fully supports this objective, but the same support is also required from Moldova.
"I pledge support these energy interconnection goals within the agreed time frame," added Romania's ambassador to Moldova, Daniel Ioniţă
Ionita also informed that a technical meeting had been held in Bucharest at the end of last month, attended by representatives of the ministries in Romania and the Republic of Moldova, together with the experts of the main companies responsible for energy interconnection.
The two sides agreed on a schedule of actions. The Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline was inaugurated on August 27, 2014. Currently, Moldova imports more than 1.1 million m3 of natural gas from Romania through this gas pipeline. The new pipeline will be in length of 120 kilometers and will be able to carry 1.5 billion m3 of gas per year.
