While country celebrates Romanian Language, Dodon rejoices Moldovan instead
The celebration of Romanian language is celebrated today throughout the country. In Chisinau, officials started the event with depositing flowers at the Ştefan cel Mare şi Sfânt monument.
Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, along with his family, recited the poem "Our Language".
And President Igor Dodon congratulated Moldovans on a social network, but not on the occasion of the Romanian language. He wrote that he celebrated the Moldovan language as written in the Constitution.
The head of state continues not to recognize the decision of the Constitutional Court in 2013.
The High Court established that the Declaration of Independence was stronger than the Constitution in the matter of the state language.
PUBLIKA.MD reminds us we celebrate the Romanian Language Day for 28 years. The Romanians' struggle between the Prut and the Dniester, for the alphabet and language, which historians described as a symbol of independence, culminated in the summer of 1989.
On August 27, over 70,000 participants at the Grate National Assembly demanded the Romanian language as the state language.
Two days later, the Supreme Soviet of Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic adopted language legislation. The "Moldovan" language, written in Latin script, was declared official language of Moldova.
As early as September 1, 1989, the subject of study in schools was called Romanian Language and Literature, according to the Minister of Education Nicolae Mătcaş.
The agrarian Parliament, which came to power in 1994, adopted the Constitution of Moldova, and in Article 13 it was indicated that "the Moldovan language is Moldovan language based on the Latin script".
After that, scientists tried to request to modify this article in vain.
The Communists also ruled against the Romanian language, which came to power in 2001. Their initiatives to change the name of the Romanian language into the Moldovan language were criticized harshly.
Thousands of people came to protests in the years 2002, 2004 and 2008.
In 2013, the Constitutional Court made an unprecedented decision and established that the Declaration of Independence was stronger than the Constitution in the matter of the state language.
Thus, the term "Romanian language" has become constitutional and can be used in official acts.
And in Romania on August 31, Romanian language is celebrated.
Moreover, in 2011, several Romanian associations and organizations in Serbia, Bulgaria, Hungary and Ukraine determined that 31 August, the day when Moldova celebrated Romanian Language Day, would be a national holiday for these communities Romanian and be celebrated in all these communities starting 2012.
They also called for other Romanian associations and organizations all over the world to proclaim 31 August as the Day of Romanian Language and to celebrate it as well.
