Seven men will stand trial on suspicion of having attempted to illegally acquire state property. Anticoruption has defined the case as one of power peddling.

According to the attorney, at the end of last year, the office of an Economy Ministry employee from GIUVAIER I.S was searched, as well as those of other people who were implicated within the case, with the aim of finding and seizing goods and documents that could establish all circumstances. The searches were part of an investigation that begun in November 2016, for power peddling, resulting in grave breaches of public interest and false documents.

Namely, the crime was investigated as the reason for insolvency, appealed against GIUVAIER I.S, which was established by Ministry of Economy, attempting to ripe the state off private property worth over 20 million lei.

According to the gathered data, without having the right to own the state property, the liquidator of GIUVAIER I.S, while going bankrupt has privatized through auction Ministry of Economy's property.

Among the suspects counts employees from the National Social Insurance Fund, State Fiscal Services, Ministry of Economy, two liquidators and others.

If found guilty, they risk a 1 350 to 2 350 conventional units fine, or 2 to 6 years of imprisonment, both cases depriving them from the right to own certain jobs for the next 5 to 10 years.

At the same time, the suspects will have to refund court costs of over 90 thousand lei.
