November six- International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict
The General Meeting of ONU declared the day of November 6-International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict- 56/4 resolution from November 5, 2001.
The ONU offers a big importance to the action, that is a strategy of preventing the wars and conflicts and maintaining the peace , because there can't be a durable peace in the case where the natural resources that support the ecosystems are destroyed.
The ONU's resolution according to the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict mentions that the damages of the environment during the armed conflicts affects the ecosystems and the natural resources many years after those are finished.
Even if the humanity counted between the victims of the conflicts soldiers, affected civil, destroyed cities, but nobody counted the environment that is a victim too. For a military advantage, there were polluted waters, the plants were set on fire, the forests destroyed the soils were poisoned and the animals were killed.
The program of the United Nations for the Environment found out in the last 60 years at least 40% off all the intern conflicts were connected with the natural resources exploitation. This refers to natural resources of big value, as the gold, petrol, diamonds and wood and limited resources as soil and water.
In 2016, the ONU meeting of the UNEP represents the most high international forum organized between May 23 and 27 adopted a resolution- EA.2/ Res. 15- that recognized the role of the ecosystems and durable resources, to reduce the rick of an armed conflict. It also showed its approval according to the main objectives of durable development, that were counted in the Resolution of the General Meeting.
