Paşcani mine tragedy. Criminal investigation on two charges begun
An employee from Paşcani mine, responsible for carrying out mining operations, was arrested. Two criminal files were opened upon this case for breaches in safety rules and mining code.
"Many documents were confiscated and people questioned, including employees that worked in the mine on 20 November. At the moment, we have 1 arrested person, one of the employees" deputy of General Prosecutor's Office, Igor Popa declared.
Deputy of General Prosecutor's Office, Igor Popa has also said that mine activity was preformed legally. Still, all documents will be analysed.
"We will check to see if safety rules were respected, as well as mining code and proper use of mining equipment" Igor Popa explained.
According to the Penal Code, for breaching workplace safety, resulting in a person's death, the punishment is of up to 6 years of imprisonment.
After the accident in Paşcani, Prime Minister Pavel Filip requested for all mines from the country to be inspected. If any breaches will be found, all activity will immediately cease.
Prime Minister Pavel Filip has set up yesterday an urgent Government meeting, after the tragedy from Pașcani village, Criuleni. The official urged responsible institutions to contact the victim's families and offer assistance.
Pavel Filip has also requested an immediate investigation regarding all possible way such an accident could have happened, as well as who is to blame for it.
