Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Monica Babuc declared on social networks that Mărţişorul was registered by UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. 

The decision was taken during the 12th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage which took place in Jeju Island, South Korea.

During the Government meeting, Prime Minister Pavel Filip mentioned that last year, the traditional techniques used by Romania and Republic of Moldova to make carpets, was registered by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage.

"It is a happiness that must be shared with all citizens of Republic of Moldova, our mărţişor was recognized an intangible cultural heritage. For this achievement, I wish to express gratitude toward Minister Monica Babuc and all those who promoted it. We all should take pride in it, as only last year the traditional techniques used by Romania and Republic of Moldova to make carpets was registered by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. It might be symbolic, but it is very precious and we must be proud of it" Prime Minister Pavel Filip declared.
