More women from Moldova bring into this world twins or triplets
More women from Moldova birth twins or triplets, the number of such cases having multiplied by twice in recent years, claim doctors from the maternity ward of the Municipal Clinical Hospital no. 1 from Chisinau.
"This one Nichita and that is Victoria, our little miracles. Victoria is stronger and is no longer in an incubator. Here is Egor. He is the smallest and a very calm infant."
Last week, Natalia Screlea brought into this world three children after undergoing a fertility treatment.
Only on the third ultrasound, the doctors discovered that the woman carries three children.
"We were expecting twins, because many from our family has them. Therefore, the news were not surprising. I do not know how I will manage, but I will do my best, because I longed-for those children. They are a gift from God" mother of three, Natalia Screlea said.
After birth, the infants were taken to intensive case. As they gained a bit of weight, the children were taken to the neonatal intensive care unit.
Doctors claim that now everything is well and in a few weeks, the new parents will be able to take them home.
"They will be taken care of in our ward until the age of 36 - 37 weeks since the gestation, or even to 38 weeks, until they gain around 2 kg, or more. The infants are feeling well and despite there being three of them, they are doing good" nurse from the neonatal intensive care unit, Mariana Luceac said.
In 2017, three women gave birth to triplets in the Municipal Clinical Hospital no. 1, while another 2 will soon give birth.
"In the past there were no cases of triplets, while twins were very rare. Today, nearly each day we meet more and more women carrying twins, triplets, or even quadruplets" professor Valentin Friptu said.
Doctors claim that the number of twins being born in recent years rose from 2% to 4.6% in 2017.
They consider this to be due to multiple modern procedures for fertilization. Still, doctors believe such births to pose more risks than normal one.
A future mother can find out if she will have twins on the 6th week. In most of the cases they are dizygotic twins.
From the genetic point of view, they are like any other brothers. Less common being twins that share both gender and appearance.
Specialists proved that regardless if the twins are dizygotic or monozygotic, they develop at the same rate. Still, there are some differences. For example, their fingerprints match.
Statistics show that in general, natality is on the rise. In 2016, there were by 3% more children born than in previous years.
