Common emergency number 112 ready for launch. System tested by Prime Minister Pavel Filip
The headquarters of the common emergency number 112, that will launch next week, was visited today by Prime Minister Pavel Filip.
Pavel Filip tested the system on call reception and management, being also informed of how calls are being taken over. The official was interested in the working conditions of the emergency operators, accentuating that the main advantage of having a common emergency number is that it requires less time to take actions, allowing faster interference and coordination of specialized services.
"-If I were to call you and report two criminals outside my house, how would you act?
-The system allows us to connect with all three services simultaneously by pressing certain buttons. Then, all three services will receive an alert on our situation and can even listen to the conversation our operator has with the victim", Pavel Filip said.
To this moment, the headquarters was equipped, the informational system installed and the laboratory visual identity of the service was elaborated. At the same time, 38 emergency operators were hired, from 200 people who applied for the job. They were trained, the lessons continuing for operators of General Police Inspectorate and of Emergency Medical Services. The solution for call location is also being perfected, along with ANRCETI and cell phone operators, wishing to offer as extended and exact data as possible.
"The list shows us all calls, depending on how long the person was waiting on the other line. The colors also change from green to yellow if the call is not taken within a few seconds, then it changes again to red in case it was ignored for a long time", an operator explained.
Prime Minister Pavel Filip requested for the necessary aspects to be clarified for an efficient operation of the service and highlighted the importance of close communication on this subject and informing citizens, including children, on the benefits of a single emergency line.
"-Do you like this job?
-I truly do love it.
-This is very a very important job, as you need to speak with people who are baring their souls to you. Have you seen how many movies there are about rescuers and operators?", Prime Minister said.
During last year, specialized services received 2.7 million calls, by 10% less than in 2016. After the European common emergency number 112 will be activated, the numbers 901, 902 and 903 will function to the end of June, when all calls will be redirected to 112.
The common emergency number 112 project was initiated by Prime Minister Pavel Filip when he was Minister of Information Technologies and Communication.
