New draft Media Code is subject to public debate
The first round of hearings took place today to discuss the first two chapters of the new draft of Audiovisual Code.
The event organized by the Culture, Education, Research, Youth, Sports and Mass Media Commission gathered representatives, experts, members of the CCA, representatives of the media institutions, civil society and international organizations .
The Draft Audiovisual Media Services Code of Moldova was elaborated by national and international experts in the Working Group on the Improvement of Media Legislation.
The document provides for a number of new regulations on audiovisual communication principles: freedom of expression, editorial independence, ensuring fair information, protection of minors and persons with disabilities, gender balance, the protection of the national broadcasting space, the transparency of the property, etc.
The drafting of the regulations has taken into account the experience of several European countries, the document aimed at adjusting the national legislation in the field of media to the European one.
According to the President of the Commission, Vladimir Hotineanu, the draft Audiovisual Media Services Code will be voted in final reading only after it has been sent for expertise to the Council of Europe, the EU and the OSCE.
The Draft Audiovisual Media Services Code of Moldova was registered in Parliament on March 22, 2018.
