This week was marked by a number of political, economic and social events. MEP Andi Cristea, who is also co-president of Moldova-EU Parliamentary Association Committee, announced that Moldova might receive the first tranche of the 100 million financial assistance by May 20. The official participated at the Committee's 6th reunion, which took place in Chisinau.

MEP Norica Nicolai, who also attended the reunion, has met with leader of PDM, Vlad Plahotniuc. The two officials spoke of Moldova's European track, which is irreversible and of the governance's will and determination to see it through.

President of PDM, Vlad Plahotniuc, has also met in Chisinau with US Congressman William Hurd. The two officials spoke of the Moldova - United States of America relations and the reform progress from Moldova. Hurd also declared that US is ready to support Republic of Moldova in its fight against the hybrid war led by Russia.

Starting this week, people who wish to run for Mayor of Capital can also submit their applications. So far, five candidates have registered their documents at the Electoral Commission. Namely: Valeriu Munteanu, Vasile Costiuc, Alexandr Roșco, Reghina Apostolova and Andrei Năstase. 

PDM believes that PAS and PPDA are threatening the results of local elections, because the City Hall might fall into the hands of socialist Ion Ceban. According to the democrats, the far-right candidate should have been PAS leader, Maia Sandu, who could have united all pro-European forces.

This week, former liberal-democrat deputy Chiril Lucinschi has also received a five years and six months sentence for money laundering. The decision was taken by Chisinau Court and will come into force once the final sentence will be given. Until then, Lucinschi is free, but forbidden from leaving the country.
