Petro Poroshenko declared promulgation of law on joint border control a birthday gift to PM Pavel Filip
An important decision was taken today in Kiev. President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, promulgated the law on joint control at Moldova - Ukraine borders.
While the law was being brought into force, Poroshenko declared that Prime Minister Pavel Filip may consider it his birthday gift.
From now on, Chisinau will be granted control over all its borders with Ukraine, including the part located in Transnistria. The document was signed in the presence of PM Pavel Filip.
Traditionally, the two officials greeted each other in Romanian.
Pavel Filip and Petro Poroshenko mentioned that the law will offer increased regional security and more efficient fight against crime and contraband.
To this point, joint Moldova - Ukraine border control was performed at six Customs. Among them counts Cuciurgan - Pervomaisk crossing point, located in Transnistria, where such control begun in July 2017.
The two officials, who participated at the opening ceremony, spoke with authorities from Transnistria and declared that this decision will cause no blockage in the region.
Between Moldova and Ukraine exists 68 crossing points, out of which 25 are located in Transnistria.
